High Adventure Training Requirements

Training Requirements for Adult Participants for High Adventure Trips

Adults interested in participating in Philmont, Northern Tier or Seabase High Adventure trips must complete several training classes (online and in person) so they are best prepared for each unique environment. The majority of training is available online but there are several classes available only in-person.

The following classes are all available online:

– Youth Protection
– Safety Afloat
– Weather Hazards
– Trek Safety
– Safe Swim Defense

To access these online classes, visit MyScouting.org by clicking here. You will need to create an account if you do not already have one to access the training area on the site.

In addition to these online classes, BSA High Adventure trips require that at least one adult have the following training which must be taken in person through a BSA certified training organization:

– Wilderness First Aid
– CPR

IMPORTANT NOTE – For High Adventure trips, adults and scouts are usually broken into one or two “crews”, each with 4-8 scouts and 2-4 adults. Troop 111 requires that in addition to the online training requirements for each trip, EACH CREW must have two adults trained in Wilderness and CPR for ALL TRIPS. Dates and times for Wilderness and CPR training can be found by clicking here.
