Troop 111, chartered on July 31st, 1939, is sponsored by St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 1914 North Randolph Street, Arlington, VA [this is in the Cherrydale/Waverly Hills area of North Arlington]. Within the Boy Scouts of America, we are part of the Chain Bridge District in the National Capital Area Council. The Troop meets on Monday nights from 7pm to 8:30pm in the main hall of the Parish Center, which is located at the far southern end of the Parish complex. The Troop has about 70+ active Scouts ranging from sixth through twelfth grades, plus around a dozen Adult Leaders. In order to avoid outgrowing our facilities, we have some restrictions on membership for Scouts; please read our Information Sheet for Parents of Webelos Scouts to see if your son qualifies for membership in Troop 111.
The philosophy of the Troop is simple – we seek to take beginner Scouts and develop them into tough, socially responsible citizen-leaders with positive, can-do attitudes towards their own and America’s future. As an aid to this philosophy, the Troop runs an ambitious Scout-run outdoor/camping program, with at least one major (weekend) activity a month, plus a comprehensive Scout-run advancement program. The Troop also participates in several long-term camping trips every summer, including a BSA summer camp, a BSA high adventure trek (usually Philmont) and a Troop-developed high adventure trek (for example, biking the entire C&O Canal, SCUBA diving in the Virgin Islands, backpacking the entire Shenandoah National Park, etc.) Please refer to our calendar for a list of this year’s outdoor program.
If you are interested in joining Troop 111 as an Adult Leader, or if your son would like to join (and meets our membership restrictions), please email Scoutmaster John Brennan at mrbrennan at troop111.org (replace “at” with “@”) to arrange a visit to an upcoming Troop meeting.
